NACDS Statement: Emergency Planning Illuminates the Value of Community Pharmacy
Page Content Pharmacies in neighborhoods across the nation do very well when it comes to the “A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed” test. The development of Hurricane Irene provides the latest example of community pharmacy’s vital role in fostering patient health, even during the preparation and recovery related to emergency situations.
In addition to specific efforts of pharmacies and pharmacy companies, NACDS and NACDS members are engaged with Rx Response – a pharmaceutical supply chain coalition that fosters the availability of needed prescription medications in the aftermath of events such as hurricanes. Rx Response already has launched an effort in anticipation of Hurricane Irene to raise awareness among the public, through the media, of steps that can be taken in advance by patients to help ensure they have the medications that they need.
NACDS and NACDS member companies declare and demonstrate that community pharmacies are the face of neighborhood healthcare, and that they provide unsurpassed value in healthcare delivery. That value plays out 365 days a year, but perhaps it is no more apparent than when pharmacy patient care is needed most.
